Funny how no one reissues history textbooks [or maybe they do?]. It seems like an obvious demonstration of how much tone shapes wether history seems fresh or stale, biased or ‘neutral.’ And how much the present changes what we think of the past. A Cold War era history textbook is not exactly timeless. Of course the choices of texts for Exploring English 1 were very much of their time, but one artifact makes us nostalgic and the other is funny, embarrassing or boring. Makes you think they should be using more original texts for teaching school history!
